Dentures are an artificial replacement of the missing teeth and surrounding alveolar bone and tissues. The complete denture has two components, artificial teeth, and an acrylic base.
The complete dentures take a lot more support from the oral mucosa than the partial dentures.

Dentures in Vasai
Conventional dentures
These are the removable dentures that are placed in your mouth after all the teeth have been removed and your gums have healed well. Conventional dentures have been used for a long time. These are made in acrylic that resembles your gums and the teeth are embedded into them.
Steps for the complete denture:
- Primary impressions: The patient is thoroughly assessed and then the impressions are done with the help of an impression compound. These impressions are sent to the lab for the fabrication of special trays for the secondary impressions.
- Secondary impressions: The trays obtained from the lab are adjusted in the patient’s mouth and border molding is completed. Border molding helps in the proper recording of the margin details.
After that, the final impression is done with the help of Zinc oxide eugenol paste. This impression records the intricate details of the arches.
- Jaw Relation: After the final impressions are sent to the lab, the jaw wax rims are prepared. These wax rims are then sued to record the facial height and the arch width available for the placement of the teeth.
This step is also required to record the inter jaw relation.
- Trial: After the jaw records are sent to the lab, the teeth setting is done. The teeth are chosen according to age, skin tone, and facial features.
The trial denture is checked for phonetics, proper intercuspal closure, and various other characteristics.
After proper adjustments have been made, the denture is sent to the lab for fabrication.
- Denture delivery: The final denture is prepared in the laboratory and checked in the patient’s mouth for fitting.
- Recall: As a patient, you would take some time to adjust to the new dentures and that’s why there would be a recall to check how well the new dentures fit in your mouth.
All these steps took multiple visits in the past but now at Vasai Dental Care and implant Clinic, you can get your complete dentures on the same day.
We are one of the few dental clinics in Mumbai to give this service to our patients. You are just a day away from getting the perfect denture
Implant-supported dentures
While the conventional dentures take support from the bone and the surrounding tissues; the implant-supported dentures take support from the underlying implants. This is an economical solution to implant prostheses. For a full arch, usually, 4-6 implants are placed in the arch. The implants are left to integrate for around 12-24 weeks.
After that, a small surgery exposes the implant heads. Healing collars are placed after the heads have been exposed .The gum is allowed to heal properly. These remains in place for around 2 weeks and then abutments are placed over them.
A series of impressions are done and then the dentures are temporarily placed over this framework. Then the final dentures are inserted into the attachments.
Dr. Ajay Mishra and Dr. Pallavi Taneja are certified implantologists and have been delivering successful implant prostheses in Vasai.
Attachment supported dentures or overdentures
Overdentures are removable complete dentures that are retained over teeth, roots or dental implants. This is a preferred line of treatment for elderly patients who have a few remaining roots and teeth. The remaining roots preserve the alveolar bone.
The dentures are retained with the help of copings and precision instruments.
Attachment retained dentures can enhance the patient aesthetics and the functional capability of the dentures.
Post-operative care for dentures
- Give your dentures some time to adjust in the mouth. Do not start eating food immediately after placement. Give a week to your oral tissues for adjustment.
- Remove your dentures the night before sleeping. The oral tissues need some time to relax.
- Keep your dentures in water when you are not using them.
- Rinse well after eating and clean your dentures well.
- Be careful to clean the attachments.
- You may have some ulcers or trauma in the mouth after denture placement. Do not worry; this is the adjustment phase that the oral mucosa goes through.
- Visit your dentist for intermediate recalls.
- Clean your dentures with a brush every morning and soak them in a denture solution once a week.
- Gargle after meals to prevent the food from getting trapped under the dentures.
- Visit your dentist once a year to get your dentures checked.
